Fish and Ships!

Situated on the Landguard Peninsular, adjacent to the Port of Felixstowe, on the Orwell estuary, the View Point Cafe absolutely lives up to its name. We serve all day breakfasts, fabulous fish and chips, snacks, butties, meals and either a hot dish or quiche and salad of the day - depending on the season. We also offer delicious cakes, pastries, ice creams and beverages to eat in or take away. Our food is cooked to order in the open plan kitchen and locally sourced where possible. Try the Fisherman's Breakfast or go full out with the Handballer's Brunch (handballing being one of the most physical jobs at the port). Open from 9am every day of the year except Christmas Day, we have plenty of seating inside with amazing views over the water. In addition there is a large terrace (pooches welcome) where you can also hear and feel the massive ships passing.

There can't be many locations worldwide where you can get such a close up view of the world's largest vessels manoeuvring in and out of port, assisted by the small but mighty tug boats, before watching them be unloaded by the giant quayside cranes. The sight of the tiny yachts and foot ferry crossing the harbour in the wake of these monsters is awesome.

The Visitor Centre attached to the cafe provides on line information of ships entering and leaving port, videos and hands on exhibits.

Landguard Peninsular is at the southern most tip of Felixstowe. Here you will also find Landguard Fort, Landguard Nature Reserve, Felixstowe Museum, Landguard Common (part of which is suitable for dog walking), long sandy beaches and access to the Harwich Foot and Cycle Ferry (part of National Route 51 and Regional Route 41). There's enough to see and do to fill a leisurely day, breaking for refreshment at the View Point Cafe.

Christmas Opening Hours

Throughout the Christmas period we will be open every day as normal, 9am-4pm. With the exception of Christmas Day when we will be closed.

Winter opening & hot dishes

We are now operating our winter opening hours of 9am - 4pm daily.
After a bracing walk along the beach, come in to the cafe, or sit on the terrace (dogs welcome), and enjoy a warming pot of tea or a coffee with a buttie. If you've worked up an appetite for lunch then we now serve our "hot dish of the day" roast turkey with all the trimmings - roast tatties, pig in a blanket, Yorky, Brussels sprouts (of course, but we don't make you eat them), carrots, gravy and cranberry sauce. All for £8.75.  We also have Pie of the day (£6.95) served with a choice of mash, peas and gravy or beans and chips. Alongside the popular all day breakfasts we serve snacks such as Welsh rarebit (£3.55) and meals including fish and chips. If you've saved room for dessert then you can continue to watch the busy port activity right outside the cafe whilst tucking in to our homemade Hot pudding of the day (£3.75).

View Point Kiosk

The View Point Kiosk has arrived, so if anyone fancies an ice cream...!  It does sell hot drinks too and we're currently opening at weekends whilst we sort out a few snags.
