Jazz Returns to The Alex
As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, we’re delighted to be bringing live jazz back to The Brasserie. For six special Sunday evenings this autumn, some of the region’s finest jazz musicians will be taking to the stage, reviving a much-loved part of The Alex’s history. Whether you’re a dedicated jazz fan or simply looking for a different way to spend a Sunday evening, expect great music, fantastic food and a wonderful atmosphere.

Sunday, 18th Oct, Musaic: A quartet recently formed to perform across the local jazz scene, featuring the exceptional saxophone talents of Carl Sterling, joined by Bernie Hodgkins (bass), Kevin Harris (drums) and John Parker (guitar). Expect an exciting blend of Latin jazz, swing and classics from the Great American Songbook.
Sunday, 25th Oct, join acclaimed trumpeter Pete Rudeforth, formerly of the Chris Barber Jazz & Blues Band, as he blows up a storm alongside Alan Clarke (drums), Bernie Hodgkins (bass) and John Parker (guitar). A versatile musician with a career spanning venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and intimate local jazz clubs. This promises to be a superb evening of live jazz.
Sunday, 1st Nov, join The Djangoliers for an unforgettable evening of Gypsy jazz, featuring the dazzling guitar talents of Simon Hurley and Rob Ford, supported by Andy Staples on bass and Zak Barrett on clarinet. Expect virtuoso solos, infectious rhythms and the unmistakable sound of swing in what promises to be one of the highlights of the Jazz in the Brazz series.
Sunday, 8th Nov, arguably one of Europe’s finest clarinettists, Julian Marc Stringle joins us for an evening of outstanding swing, with more than a nod to the music of Benny Goodman. Joining him will be John Parker on guitar, Bernie Hodgkins on bass, and the mighty Alan Clarke on drums, fondly remembered by many from the much-loved local band Fusion.
Sunday 15th Nov, we’re thrilled to welcome Zak Barrett to Jazz in the Brazz for an evening of wonderful saxophone playing. A familiar face on the East Anglian jazz scene and a highly sought-after performer, Zak always brings energy, creativity and musical flair to every performance. Joining him are Kevin Harris (drums), Bernie Hodgkins (bass) and John Parker (guitar) for what promises to be a fantastic evening of live jazz.
Sunday, 22nd Nov, we’re delighted to welcome Martin Eaton for an evening of superb jazz, featuring his expressive saxophone playing and classic Nat King Cole vocals. Joining Martin are Chrissy Lee on drums, Bernie Hodgkins on bass and John Parker on guitar. Expect an evening of swing, timeless jazz standards and outstanding musicianship as we bring our six-week series to a stylish close.
